A Brief History of the Soviet Military
The Soviet Military had its roots during the Bulshevik Revolution in October of 1917, this would lead to the bloody Russian Cival War in which ussia lost over 600,000 people. After this war V.I.Lenin was put into power where the transformation of Russia into a Communist state began after a shot time in power Lenin is stricken with a stroke which kills him. After Lenin's death Joseph Stalin took power and immediately began his total transformation of Russia into the Soviet Union and industrializing, but along with this Stalin also began his Great Purges of the Soviet military, leaving it ill prepared for the U.S.S.R's(Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) invasion of Finland in which the it nearly lost to the Finns until a counterattack and peace with Finland in 1939. Two years after this the German forces under the facist rule of Adolf Hitler invaded Soviet held Poland, breaking the non-aggretion pact and setting forth a long bloddy war with the U.S.S.R losing most battles until the Battle of Stalingrad,in 1942, in which the Germans were repulsed beyand Kursk where the Germans laid down a counter-attack,Operation Citidel 1943, in which the Germans lost a vast amount of men and vehicles and sealed their fate on the Eastern Front. And all this 2 years before the American and British landings on Normandy. After the long retreat of the Germans, the Soviet Union took Berlin ending the war in Europe. Immediately following The Great Patriotic War(World War II) the Western allies took opposition against the Communist East in the Cold War which lasted until 1992 when Mikhial Gorbachev, a poor leader and Leninist, repealed many of the policies that held the Soviet Union together causing it to fall apart into the Commonwealth of Independant States (CIS) and after the fall of communism in Russia its economy crashed and is still recovering from the evil effects of capitalism.
